Sean CrumbyThe City of Long Beach has selected Sean Crumby, former director of Public Works for Seal Beach, as its new city engineer and deputy director of public works, the city announced today.

According to a release issued by the city, Crumby’s appointment was effective last month.

“Sean will be an invaluable asset to the City of Long Beach,” said Public Works Director Ara Maloyan in a statement. “As City Engineer, he will oversee crucial infrastructure projects throughout the City and also work with private developers on important construction standards.”

The release stated that Crumby’s experience consists of working for three municipalities and work as a private consultant, dealing with coastal cities, pavement management programs, storm water traffic, coastal projects, GIS systems, roadway construction and building projects.

In his new position, he’ll oversee 75 staff members within the Engineering Bureau’s seven divisions: Construction Management, Design Mobility Programs, Project Management, Storm Water/Environmental Compliance, Transportation Engineering and Capital Improvement. He will also manage a $21 million Operating Budget.

Crumby earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Nevada and is a member of several engineering organizations, including the American Public Works Association and the American Society of Engineers. He lives in Huntington Beach with his wife and enjoys skiing in the snow and SCUBA diving.

“I am delighted to join the City of Long Beach, and excited to tackle the challenges the City has to offer,” said Crumby in a statement.
