7:30am | As of this week, Long Beach City College is now officially a smoke-free campus. Students, faculty, staff and visitors will no longer be able to smoke on either LBCC campus, or on any district owned facilities including Vikings Stadium and inside college vehicles.
The Board of Trustees unanimously approved the measure at Tuesday’s board meeting. A committee of students proposed the Smoke-Free designation, and worked with campus faculty and administration to bring the measure forward to the Board of Trustees.
“I am proud that our students led this grassroots effort to make Long Beach City College smoke-free,” said LBCC President Eloy Ortiz Oakley. “We hope these new regulations will create a healthier environment for our students, faculty and staff.”
The new regulations also creates a small number of smoking designated areas where people can smoke. The College is also launching a campaign to assist those that would like to quit smoking.
Students and staff are encouraged to call Student Health Services at (562) 938-4210, or at (562) 938-3992 for the Pacific Coast Campus.
