The segment, which aired a week ago on March 23, featured live video footage of the Long Beach Fire Department battling the blaze, as well as firefighters’ rescue and resuscitation of the 60-pound boxer.

The segment was rounded out by a live interview via satellite with the dog, Elmo, his owners, Sara and mark Neal, and the two men who were instrumental in saving Elmo’s life, Firefighter-paramedic Paul Rodriguez and Firefighter Billy Noda.

Rodriguez said he used a “doggy respirator” — a specialized oxygen mask designed specifically to fit over a dog’s muzzle and bag valve device  and even had the dog hooked up to a heart monitor.
