3:01pm |The Long Beach and Los Angeles Boards of Harbor Commissioners are scheduled to meet jointly at Port of Long Beach headquarters at 1 p.m. this Thursday, July 7, for a workshop on the potential development of zero-emissions cargo-moving technology.
The workshop will focus on technology that could achieve even greater air pollution reductions than those already being implemented under the San Pedro Bay Ports Clean Air Action Plan, which was adopted in 2006 and updated last year by both Harbor Commissions.
The ports have been researching and testing various options to move cargo containers using zero-emissions technologies. Presentations will be given by the staffs of each port as well as by representatives of the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Southern California Association of Governments and South Coast Air Quality Management District.
The workshop will be a study session only and no votes are planned. The meeting place is at Port of Long Beach headquarters, 925 Harbor Plaza, Long Beach, 90802. The meeting will be webcast live at PoLB.com/webcast.
The ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach are the No. 1 and No. 2 busiest container seaports in North America, respectively. The two ports combined move more than $350 billion worth of goods and materials annually and sustain hundreds of thousands of jobs in Southern California.
