A 25-year-old Long Beach man pleaded no contest Monday to manslaughter in the 2013 killing of a 20-year-old, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office announced yesterday.

Artileus Richardson pleaded no contest to one felony count of voluntary manslaughter with a gun and gang allegation, officials said.

According to the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) Richardson shot 20-year-old Devin Smith in the upper torso in an apartment complex courtyard near the 1400 block of Florida Street, at Tile Avenue on May 1, 2013.

Residents had reported hearing a single shot followed by silence and then three repeated shots. Smith died after being transferred to a local hospital.

Richardson will be looking at 31 years in prison when he is sentenced September 30.
