Police said they arrested a Lynwood man on suspicion of murder in the death of a Long Beach man killed after he was intentionally hit by a car early Sunday.

The Long Beach Police Department said officers responded at 1:47 a.m. Sunday to the 1700 block of Newport Avenue, near the Traffic Circle, where they found an unconscious man in the roadway.

Public safety officers rendered medical aid, but the victim died at the scene. He was identified as Samuel Ocegueda, 28, of Long Beach.

Police said Ocegueda and his attacker had a “verbal dispute,” after which he crossed Newport Avenue on foot outside the crosswalk, walking east to west.

“While on the roadway the suspect intentionally struck the victim with his vehicle,” police said in a statement.

The vehicle used in the attack — a dark four-door sedan — fled the scene southbound on Newport Avenue and west on Wilton Street.

Later the same day, Police said they arrested a 28-year-old man, Isai Solis, in the 12400 block of Santa Fe Avenue in Lynwood, and booked him for murder on $2 million bail.

The case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing consideration.
