A Long Beach motorist died after appearing to have suffered a medical emergency in Long Beach early Friday morning, causing him to crash his car into a pole at slow speed, authorities said.
Police responded to the incident at 4:37AM at Studebaker Road and Driscoll Street. Arriving officers discovered that a 2016 Honda Civic collided with a wooden power line pole, causing it to collapse, according to a release from the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).
The Honda was being driven by a 48-year-old Long Beach man, who was traveling northbound on Studebaker Road.
“There was minimal damage to the vehicle as it impacted the light pole at slow speed south of the intersection with Driscoll Street,” officials stated. “The driver didn’t appear to have any injuries from the collision and it appeared that the driver might have suffered a medical emergency at the time of the incident.”
There were no passengers in the car with the victim and no other vehicles were involved in the crash. There were no witnesses to the crash either, according to authorities.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by Long Beach paramedics. His identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The coroner’s office will determine the official cause of death.
