10:00am | Two shootings in Long Beach over the weekend left one man dead and a pregnant woman wounded, and Long Beach Police are investigating both incidents as being possibly gang-related.

On Friday, 23-year old Brian Humphries was visiting friends in front of a residence near the 1000 block of Lewis Avenue around 8:30pm, when two male suspects approached him and opened fire without any words spoken. Humphries was struck in the torso and the suspects fled northbound on Lewis Avenue, on foot.

Humphries was transported to a local hospital but was pronounced deceased a short time later. Police are still investigating a motive and the possibility that the shooting was gang-related, said Long Beach Police Department Spokesperson Nancy Pratt.

In the early hours of Sunday, a pregnant woman was shot and wounded in the 1100 block of Norman Court around 1:00am. UPDATE: Two Long Beach males, aged 17 and 22, were arrested on Sunday in connection with the shooting. Police are unsure whether the woman was the intended target or an innocent bystander and are investigating the possibility that the shooting was gang-related.

Anyone with information regarding the shootings is urged to call Homicide detectives Malcolm Evans and Todd Johnson at 562.570.7244.
