10:00am | Arson investigators from the Long Beach Fire Department are looking for suspects that threw Molotov cocktails at a Long Beach residence twice on Monday morning.
One vehicle was damaged but the attacks did not affect the residence in question, at 1822 East 56th Street. Witnesses called the Fire Department at 9:40am on Monday and the responding crew found evidence of a Molotov cocktail attack at the rear of the residence, though the device landed about ten feet from the building.
A Molotov cocktail is essentially a bottle filled with flammable liquid and topped with a rag that is set on fire, and when thrown creates a fireball on impact.
Two families live in the building, and a resident and bystander extinguished the fire and prevented it from spreading to the home. Witnesses told firefighters that another Molotov cocktail had been thrown at the same residence less than two hours earlier.
“Had either one of these incidents gone undetected, the results could have been catastrophic,” read a press release from the Long Beach Fire Department. Anyone with information on the attack should contact the arson tip hotline at 562.570.2582.
