Members of the community are invited to a citywide prayer regarding yesterday’s church shooting in South Carolina that killed nine people, hosted by the Long Beach Ministers Alliance at 6:30PM tonight.

The meeting will be held at the Grant AME Church, 1129 Alamitos Avenue in Long Beach.

“When a church is no longer safe, it opens up repressed anxiety that has already been internalized,” said Gregory Sanders of the Ministers Alliance. He called the killings “pretty devastating,” triggering the ministers’ organization of a prayer meeting.

A release sent by the alliance today announced a service that would pray for the “families of those killed, the Pastor who also serves as Senator, the community of Charleston as well as the nation.”

“We are deeply saddened and concerned by the developments in Charleston,” the release stated, emphasizing its tragic nature in any location. “The reality that it happened inside a church, creates [an] even deeper anxiety in the community of Charleston as well as Long Beach.”
