JetBlue has kicked off its ninth annual One Thing That’s Green contest, an initiative with the Green City Vote, the airline announced this week. In celebration of Earth Month, JetBlue is asking customers to vote for their favorite JetBlue City to receive a $50,000 grant for a green space built by the airline, such as a park or a garden, that would address a specific need in that local community.
Last year Long Beach received the grant for a new garden, to be built this summer at MacArthur Park, thanks to an application submitted by Sixth District Councilman Dee Andrews. Another previous green space winner includes Hartford, CT, when in 2014 the city chose to invest the funds in the restoration of Heaven Skate Park.
JetBlue customers can vote once per minute until Saturday, April 30 to help their favorite Blue City (ahem, Long Beach) turn green by clicking here. Competing for a green space this year are Long Beach, Austin, Boston, Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, New York, Salt Lake City, Tampa and Washington DC.
JetBlue created the One Thing That’s Green annual campaign in an effort to highlight the company’s commitment to environmentalism and to give back to the communities it serves, according to the release.
