A Long Beach police vehicle crashed into a Metro bus early this morning on the Long Beach (710) Freeway, injuring both drivers and shutting down the southbound side for about two hours, California Highway Patrol officials said.
The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) patrol officer was in the slow lane when he attempted to shift into the middle lane, which was occupied by a vehicle. The officer then steered to the right, hit the shoulder wall and went back across the slow lane into the middle lane where his cruiser struck the bus, authorities said.
The accident happened around 12:40AM, south of Pacific Coast Highway.
Authorities said the crash victims were sent to the hospital and the officer sustained moderate injuries, while the bus driver sustained minor injuries. Both were the sole occupants of their respective vehicles.
