Police say they are investigating the death of a 33-year-old man who was found unresponsive Friday morning near a fire station just north of MacArthur Park.

Officers were dispatched around 12:28 a.m. to the 1400 block of Gundry Avenue to assist Long Beach Fire personnel with what appeared to be an injured person, police said. Authorities at the scene provided aid to the man, but he was pronounced dead shortly after, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

The incident is being investigated as an undetermined death, and, at this time, there is no evidence that suggests the man’s death was a homicide, according to the LBPD. However, that may change, LBPD Officer Paige White said, as the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office works to determine the cause of death.

The man’s identity was not released while authorities work to notify his next of kin.

The investigation is ongoing.
