MARCH 17 4:17PM  |  The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) is seeking the public’s help to find a missing 10-year-old girl, police announced Tuesday afternoon.

Police were contacted by 10-year-old Samantha Lazaro’s mother at about 10:50AM Tuesday. Samantha had not shown up for school that morning, her mother told police.

Samantha left her home in the area of Orange Avenue and Anaheim Street at about 7:35AM, and her mother believed she was leaving for school at Whittier Elementary.

When her mother confirmed with the school that her daughter never arrived, she called the police, who determined from a note Samantha left at home that she never had the intention of going to school Tuesday.

Officers immediately began searching for the girl, but have not been able to locate her.

Samantha has been described as a 10-year-old Hispanic girl, 4’5″ in stature, about 80 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. She was last seen possibly wearing a baby blue sweater with polka dots, jeans and black sneakers, Samantha’s mother told police.

The Long Beach Police Department continues to search for the victim. Law enforcement agencies in the region have been alerted, and the Fire Department, local hospitals and public transportation have also been notified. Anyone with information regarding Samantha’s whereabouts is urged to call 9-1-1 if in Long Beach, or 562-435-6711 if outside the city.
