12:00pm | The Long Beach Police Department will hold a community meeting open to the public tomorrow evening from 7:00pm-8:30pm, to discuss information and welcome a new commander to the South Division. The meeting will be held in the Community Room at Long Beach Police Department headquarters at 400 W. Broadway.
Joe Stillinovich will be introduced as the new South Division Commander, replacing Jay Johnson as he moves on to Emergency Operations, according to the Police Department. Stillinovich transfers to the South from the Police Academy.
On his way out, Johnson will present current statistics and trends related to crime in the division. Community leaders and concerned citizens are invited to come and discuss ideas and information based on the presentation.
The South Division borders north/south from Anaheim Street to the Pacific Ocean, and east/west from Cherry Avenue to the 710 Freeway. It is geographically the smallest Long Beach division, but receives the second-highest number of calls each year (nearly 45,000).
