On Monday, the Port of Long Beach (POLB) selected a new managing director of human resources, Louis Gutierrez, the port announced Thursday.
Gutierrez will lead a new bureau dedicated to support recruitment, hiring and retaining of personnel. He is an attorney and former Fortune 500 executive, according to a release issued by the POLB.
“The skills Louis brings are exactly what we need to develop our talent and help the team expand their professional and organizational skills, needed to keep pace with change and growth at this very dynamic time in the Port’s history,” said POLB CEO Jon Slangerup in a statement. “I am very pleased to have him join our team.”
With a bachelor’s degree in communications studies and a law degree from UCLA, Gutierrez will walk into his newly created position after serving as the vice president of Human Resources for the Lewis Group of Companies, one of the nation’s largest privately held real estate development companies.
He currently oversees more than 500 employees at the Lewis Group in different categories, ranging from talent acquisition to executive development and employee relations functions.
Before working for the Lewis Group, Gutierrez served as the executive managing human resources at Cox Enterprises and Time Warner, The Walt Disney Company and Viacom, according to the release.
