A Long Beach resident is asking for the public’s help and offering a reward leading to the recovery of two French bulldogs that were stolen from his property late Friday morning.

The dog owner, who preferred not to be named citing privacy and safety concerns, said two burglars broke into his East Long Beach home, just off Pacific Coast Highway, at around 11:50 a.m.

When a person close to the owner arrived around noon and tried opening the door to the house, an unknown individual holding multiple dogs quickly ran past her.

She gave chase and was able to recover two of the bulldogs, but a second unknown person who was recorded at the scene on the owner’s security cameras was able to get away with two French bulldogs that were roughly 10 weeks old, the man said.

“The mother of the dogs is my emotional support dog,” the man said. “I have anxiety, a mental medical disorder, so they mean a lot to me.”

Following the burglary, the owner of the dogs said he called the Long Beach Police Department to file a report and began putting flyers on social media asking for help bringing their puppies home. The LBPD could not provide immediate details regarding the burglary.

In addition, the owner is offering an anonymous reward for information leading to the recovery of their beloved dogs, and on the two individuals who broke into his home by cutting the screen from a side window.

“They are a family at the end of the day,” said the owner, referring to the stolen dogs.

Pet thefts have been increasing nationwide, especially when it comes to purebred dogs such as French bulldogs, which can cost thousands of dollars to purchase. In Long Beach, there have been at least eight reported dog thefts since January 2021.

The owner urges anyone with information to call at 562-673-3917.
