A five-vehicle traffic collision on the southbound 405 Freeway is causing heavy traffic from Atlantic to Redondo Avenue, authorities said.

The crash occurred at around 9:30 a.m. on the southbound 405 Freeway near Cherry Avenue, Long Beach Fire Department Cpt. Jack Crabtree said.

At least six people are being assessed for injuries along with multiple pets, Crabtree said. Animal care was requested to help with the pets, according to the LBFD.

The California Highway Patrol is assisting with traffic control, Crabtree said. At this time, there have been no road closures reported, however, the collision is causing a slow flow of traffic, according to Caltrans.

The investigation into the cause is ongoing.
