The City of Long Beach and the Citizens Advisory Commission on Disabilities (CACoD) in Long Beach is inviting the community to recognize October as Disability Employment Awareness Month with a celebration on Thursday, October 22.

The event will last from 11:00AM to 3:00PM at the Long Beach Civic Center Centennial Plaza, according to a release issued by the city on Friday.

“Removing employment barriers will help improve the lives and livelihoods of many of our neighbors who want nothing more than to use their skills in the workplace,” said Mayor Robert Garcia in a statement.

Agencies that help people with disabilities will be present at the event, including Long Beach Public Library’s Information Center for People with Disabilities, Pacific Gateway Workforce Investment Network, VA Long Beach Healthcare System, Braille Institute, Ability First, Californians for Disability Rights, Access Services, Long Beach Transit, Path Point and Disabled Resources Center.
