3:20pm | In its next step to curb water use throughout the city during a statewide drought, the Long Beach Water Department announced Tuesday that they will begin offering rebates for up to $2,500 to more than 100 residents willing to replace grass lawns with drought-tolerant landscapes.
The Beautiful Long Beach Lawn to Garden Incentive Program aims to bring awareness to both the practicality and beauty of native, drought-tolerant plants that will discourage water use and continue Long Beach’s reputation as a leader in water conservation.
“The people of Long Beach have been very responsive to our calls to conserve water and make long-lasting changes to their water use habits,” said Kevin Wattier, General Manager of the Long Beach Water Department.
Applicants will be served on a first-come, first-served basis due to limited funding. Pre-approved water customers can apply for $2.50 per square-foot rebates with a maximum of 1,000 square feet allowed.
