A 19-year-old Lynwood woman was killed following a two-car collision in downtown Long Beach Thursday night, authorities said.

deadlycarcrashLong Beach police were dispatched at 9:44PM to the area of Ocean Boulevard and Falcon Avenue regarding an injury traffic collision.

Officials believe a 19-year-old South Gate man driving a 2003 Ford Mustang attempted to make a left turn from eastbound Ocean Boulevard to northbound Falcon Avenue when he was struck by a 17-year-old Long Beach resident driving a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe, according to a preliminary investigation. The 17-year-old was traveling westbound on Ocean Boulevard.

The impact of the collision caused a passenger in the Mustang, a 19-year-old Lynwood woman, to be ejected from the vehicle, officials said.

A witness attempted life-saving efforts to the woman, who sustained traumatic injuries, until police and fire personnel arrived. Fire personnel transported the woman to a local hospital where she later died of her injuries.

The driver of the Mustang was also transported to a local hospital for injuries he sustained in the crash.
