Long Beach commuters, make sure you’re home from work by 8:00PM or you’re likely to experience double the pain of gridlock traffic due to lane closures on the already-congested 405 in Long Beach. Otherwise, maybe it’s time to say goodbye to Google Maps and break out those dusty Thomas Guides to find a “fun” route home.

405LongBeachBoth directions of the San Diego (405) Freeway will be closed overnight in Long Beach for four nights starting tonight.

A construction site at Temple Ave., between Cherry Ave. and Lakewood Blvd., adjacent to the Long Beach airport is the cause of the closure, said Caltrans officials.

Workers will begin closing the lanes on the 405 starting at 8:00PM, tonight through Thursday nights. Full closures in both directions are scheduled to be in effect by midnight.

Northbound lanes should reopen at 4:00AM, Tuesday through Friday mornings, with southbound lanes reopening at 5:00AM.

Part of a damaged overpass is to be demolished and replaced in a $2.5M repair.
