A man and a dog were killed in an eight-car collision in Los Alamitos last night. The crash also left three other people injured.

The crash occurred about 6:15 p.m. Thursday in the area of Katella Avenue and Los Alamitos Boulevard, near Los Alamitos Medical Center, according to the Los Alamitos Police Department.

The man and the dog, who were both in the same car, were pronounced dead at the scene. The man’s name was withheld pending notification of his next of kin.

Two other people were trapped in their cars following the collision and had to be rescued, according to police. They were taken to a hospital in unknown condition, while a third injured person refused further treatment.

The cause of the crash was under investigation. Police asked any witnesses to contact the Los Alamitos Police Department watch commander at 562-431-2255 ext. 426.
