A Long Beach man was arrested Wednesday afternoon in connection with a shooting that took place near the Rose Park neighborhood last month, police said.

Erick Bryant Jr., 35, was taken into custody and booked for one count each of attempted murder, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and being a felon in possession of ammunition, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Police say the shooting took place during the early morning hours of Dec. 20 in the 2800 block of East Seventh Street.

There, officers found a man suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds to the lower body. He was taken to the hospital by Long Beach Fire Department personnel for treatment.

“Over the subsequent weeks, detectives gathered evidence and generated leads to identify the suspect,” the LBPD said.

On Wednesday, detectives located Bryant at around 3 p.m. near his home in the 700 block of Gladys Avenue.

After serving a search warrant at Bryant’s home, police discovered a firearm and several rounds of ammunition, authorities said.

Bryant’s bail was set at $1 million, the LBPD said. A motive for the shooting remains unclear, according to police.
