A man told police he was shot while sitting in his car in West Long Beach Sunday night, and officers quickly found the suspect believed to be responsible, according to authorities.

Police said they learned of the shooting around 11 p.m. Sunday night when someone called to report gunfire coming from a vehicle, which then fled the scene in the 2100 block of W. 17th Street., LBPD spokesman Brandon Fahey said. Shortly after, a man arrived at the West Division police substation with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the upper body. He told police he had been shot while sitting in his parked car by a suspect in a green vehicle, according to Fahey.

The victim refused medical treatment, Fahey said, but officers located a vehicle matching the witness’ descriptions near Pacific Coast Highway and Santa Fe Avenue. During a search of the car, officers found a gun, ammunition and bullet casings, indicating a shooting had occurred from the vehicle, Fahey said.

Officers arrested the driver, 52-year-old Roderick Zeigler, on suspicion of attempted murder, carrying a loaded firearm and carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, according to Fahey.

Zeigler, a Long Beach resident, was being held with bail set at $1 million.
