A man died early Wednesday morning when he jumped off a building in Downtown and was then run over by the driver of a vehicle who fled the scene after the fact, according to authorities.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man who died as 29-year-old Jeffrey Caleb Hearley of Phoenix.

It’s unclear which building Hearley jumped from, but officers were called to the area of Locust Avenue and Seaside Way around 1:49 a.m. following a report of a possible hit-and-run involving a male victim and a pickup truck, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Upon arriving at the scene, authorities located Hearley and declared him dead, police said.

No additional information regarding the driver of the pickup truck was available, according to police, who said detectives also responded to the scene to “further the investigation.”
