Man dies after being shot walking through alley near 7th Street, police say

A man died Wednesday after being shot walking through an alley near Seventh Street, and police say they are still looking for the gunman.

Officers were notified of the shooting sometime around 5:53 p.m. and responded to the 700 block of Broadway Court, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Police say the victim was walking through the alley when he was approached by an unknown male suspect, authorities said.

The suspect then fired multiple shots at the victim before fleeing the scene, the LBPD said.

When officers arrived at the scene, they located the victim suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper body. They gave the victim first aid until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived and transported him to a local hospital where he died, the LBPD said. His identity was not immediately revealed pending notification of his next of kin.

At this time, detectives do not believe the shooting was random, according to police, although a motive remains unclear.

Anyone with information is urged to contact detectives at 562-570-7244. Anonymous tips may be submitted through LA Crime Stoppers.
