A man was found dead in the fountain outside the Long Beach Terrace Theatre on Ocean Boulevard Tuesday night, officials said.

Police said the man, whom they believe to be in his 50s, reportedly overdosed and somehow ended up in the fountain at around 7 p.m. Spokeswoman Arantxa Chavarria said that someone called to report a body in the water.

The man was transported by the Long Beach Fire Department to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Based on a witness statement and video evidence, police said they do not believe there was foul play. Police believe the man was also experiencing homelessness.

At the scene, a police officer was putting away a used wheelchair in a police vehicle, but police cannot confirm if it belonged to the deceased man.

As of Tuesday evening, police could not say how the man ended up in the fountain.
