Long Beach police say they’re investigating a robbery and shooting that left a man injured Monday night.

It’s not clear when the shooting happened, but Long Beach officers responded sometime around 10 p.m. to a hospital in Los Angeles after authorities transported a man there with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to his lower body, police said.

Through their investigation, authorities determined the man had met up with a woman he knew and drove to the 100 block of Aquarium Way for what he thought would be a date, police said.

Instead, at some point, the woman led the man to an unknown vehicle where three men forced him inside at gunpoint, police said. While in the vehicle, the suspects assaulted the man, robbed him of various personal items, and then shot him.

The suspects then dropped the man off somewhere in Los Angeles before fleeing the scene, police said.

The man, according to police, did not know his attackers. At this time, suspect information and a motive for the shooting remain under investigation, authorities said.
