A man was hospitalized Tuesday after he was shot near Long Beach’s Washington neighborhood, authorities said.

Police did not say when the shooting happened, but officers arrived just after 8 p.m. to a hospital outside of the city after the man arrived there with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the lower body, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

At the hospital, the man told officers that he was walking near the area of Long Beach Boulevard and Anaheim Street when a man he didn’t know approached him and shot him, police said.

Officers responded to the area where the wounded man said he had been shot, but they were unable to locate any evidence of a crime scene, authorities said.

At this time, no suspect information is available and the motive for the shooting is unknown, according to police, who said the investigation is ongoing.
