A 39-year-old Long Beach man was killed while riding a bicycle on the 405 Freeway, authorities said today.

It happened about 10 p.m. Friday on the northbound 405 Freeway south of Woodruff Avenue in Long Beach, California Highway Patrol Officer R. Long said.

Investigators determined the man was riding a bicycle in the auxiliary lane when he was struck by a 2007 Lexus driven by an 83-year-old Long Beach man.

Paramedics pronounced the bicyclist dead at the scene, Long said. The man’s name was not released pending notification of kin, authorities said.
