A 41-year-old San Pedro man was arrested on suspicion of murder Friday, more than a decade after his girlfriend’s body was found dumped along the 710 Freeway in Long Beach.

Carl Mayes, 41, of San Pedro, who investigators say was the live-in boyfriend of 20-year-old victim Tyquesha Myers of Long Beach, is being held in lieu of $2 million bail, authorities said.

A transient came upon Myers body along the bike path north of Pacific Coast Highway about 7:30 a.m. on July 15, 2006, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Myers was found to have suffered a gunshot wound to her upper body, police said.

The person who found the body said he had not seen her when he walked along the same path about 11 p.m. the night before, an LBPD lieutenant said at the time.

New unspecified evidence led to Mayes’s arrest, according to the LBPD.

The case is expected to be presented to prosecutors for filing consideration next week, police said.
