This past Saturday, an adult male drove himself to the hospital after being shot near Downtown Long Beach.

The shooting was reported at around 8PM in the area of 8th St. and Chestnut Ave., according to police who said that the man was shot after being approached by a male suspect.

“Officers arrived and learned a male adult was approached by a male subject,” said Long Beach Police Department spokeswoman Nancy Pratt. “The subject produced a firearm and fired at the victim, striking him in the lower body before fleeing.”

The man then drove himself to the hospital, where his injuries were determined to be non life-threatening. The motive is unknown as the investigation remains ongoing.
