A man who was shot Thursday evening in North Long Beach is expected to survive, police said.

Officers responded to a local hospital around 6:38 p.m. after learning that a man with a gunshot wound had been admitted, according to the Long Beach Police Department. When officers got to the hospital, the victim told them he was in the area of 1200 East Artesia Boulevard when two unknown men confronted him and shot him in the lower body, according to the LBPD.

The suspects fled the area on foot following the shooting and the victim transported himself to the hospital, authorities said. No other injuries were reported.

When officers responded to the area where the victim told them the shooting had occurred, they could not locate a crime scene, according to the LBPD. The investigation is ongoing.
