A man was expected to survive after being shot early Thursday morning in Central Long Beach, police said.

Police responded to a local hospital at about 12:30 a.m. regarding a gunshot victim. The victim, who had been shot in the upper body, told officers he was shot in the area of Anaheim Street and Orange Avenue by assailants who fled in a vehicle, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

Police did not have a description of those involved, and the motive for the shooting is not known. Police also said there were no reports of shots fired in the area that could have been associated with the incident.
