A man was shot early today in Long Beach but was expected to survive, and two suspects remained at large.

According to police, the victim was approached by two male suspects in the 400 block of Long Beach Boulevard around 2:45 a.m., and they pointed guns at him.

“As the victim began to flee, he was struck by gunfire and the suspects fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival,” police said in a statement. “At this time, the motive for the shooting is unknown and the investigation is ongoing.”

The victim was shot in the lower body, but his injury was considered not to be life-threatening, police said.

No description of the suspects was immediately released.
