Man shot, wounded, drawing large police presence in Zaferia neighborhood

A man was shot and wounded Saturday night in the Zaferia neighborhood in Long Beach, drawing a large police presence in the area for hours.

At around 11 p.m., officers responded to a gunfire call in the area of Newport Avenue and Pacific Coast Highway, according to Long Beach police. A witness who called police saw a man with a gunshot wound being assisted by a woman, they said.

The wounded man, the woman and the suspected shooter fled before officers arrived, police said. Officers found bullet casings and strike marks at the scene, police said.

Police said they have no suspect nor victim information.
