Man shot near Martin Luther King Park following verbal dispute

A man was shot near Martin Luther King Park in Central Long Beach Monday night, according to police.

Officers were notified about a shooting near the park, at the 1900 block of Lemon Avenue, around 8:45 p.m., police said.

While officers were at the scene, they were notified that a man transported himself to a local hospital with a non life-threatening gunshot wound.

The victim and another man got into a verbal dispute that escalated to the man firing on the victim, according to police.

The suspect fled the scene before officers arrived, police said.
