A man was hospitalized after being shot while riding his bike early this morning, Long Beach police said.

Officers responded to a local hospital around 1:41 a.m. Monday following a report about a gunshot victim, the Long Beach Police Department said Monday.

At the hospital, the man told police he was riding his bike near the area of Long Beach Boulevard and Artesia Boulevard when a car pulled up next to him. The victim said that two men got out of the vehicle, took his cellphone and then an altercation ensued that led to the shooting.

The man was shot once in the lower body and transported himself to the hospital. Police say his wounds were not life-threatening.

Investigators have not yet identified the two suspects or a motive for the shooting and were not able to locate a crime scene. The investigation is ongoing.
