A man who evaded police for two weeks after prompting a SWAT standoff and ghosting officers during a search warrant turned himself in Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

Angel Francisco Zamorano, 28, surrendered himself to the Long Beach police after walking into the LBPD’s Public Safety Building in the 400 block of West Broadway Avenue around 2:43 p.m., police said.

Zamorano, who works in construction, was booked on one count of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or occupied car and one count of possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, according to LBPD booking logs. His bail was set at $250,000.

Police say Zamorano was the man responsible for shooting into his brother’s apartment in the 700 block of Olive Avenue on March 6, according to a search warrant filed in Long Beach Superior Court.

Zamorano’s brother confronted him about the shooting but after witnessing his brother call the police, Zamorano walked back to his own apartment next door and barricaded himself, according to the search warrant.

When officers arrived to the scene around 3:43 p.m. they located multiple bullet holes going through a shared wall of the brothers’ apartment complex and determined that they came from Zamorano’s unit, according to the warrant. Police attempted to make contact with Zamorano via cell phone but he refused to exit his home and stated he had someone inside with him.

SWAT was called soon after to help officers establish a perimeter around the apartment complex, police said. When officers served a search warrant and entered Zamorano’s residence hours later, he was not there.

During the search warrant on Zamorano’s home, police found multiple guns, dozens of bullet cartridges and several accessories meant to help a person aim better when handling a firearms, records show.

No injuries were reported during the shooting or the standoff, police said. The motive behind the shooting is still unknown, but Zamorano had been sending pictures of himself with firearms to other individuals two days before shooting into his brother’s home, according to the search warrant.

The investigation is ongoing.
