Police say they arrested a man with a toy gun who reportedly refused to leave a business near Long Beach’s East Village Monday night, which prompted authorities to activate its SWAT team.

Officers responded at around 9:21 p.m. to reports of a man with a gun inside a business in the 600 block of Atlantic Avenue, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

At the scene, employees and patrons were evacuated by police who established a perimeter around the business. Despite attempts by officers to get the man with the gun to exit the business, he refused.

Soon after, LBPD’s SWAT team was dispatched to the scene and the man surrendered at around 12:19 a.m. “without incident,” authorities said, adding that an airsoft gun was recovered by officers.

The suspect, whose identity was not immediately revealed by police, was booked for trespassing and being under the influence of a controlled substance, according to the LBPD.
