6:01am | A trial date has been set for two teens charged with the slaying of 16-year-old Wilson High School honor student Melody Ross.

The Press-Telegram is reporting that suspects Tom Love Vinson, 18, of Bellflower, and Daivion Davis, 17, of Long Beach, were ordered on Tuesday to return to court Aug. 8, when the trial is set to begin. Both boys were 16 at the time of the murder and are being tried as adults.

The pair also faces attempted murder charges in connection with the two adult male gang members who were shot along with Ross on Oct. 30, 2009, but survived. Police believe Vinson and Davis were acting in furtherance of their gang, a rival to the gang of the two male victims, at the time of the shooting and that Ross, an innocent bystander, was killed by a stray bullet.

If convicted on all counts,Vinson and Davis each face sentences of more than 100 years to life in prison, according to the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office. Both have reportedly remained in custody since their arrests in 2009.
