Millikan High School was placed on a precautionary lockdown late Tuesday morning following a threat to the campus, police said.
Officers responded to reports that the school had received a threat around 10:53 a.m. As of noon, officers and K-9 units were still on the campus investigating, Long Beach Police Department spokesperson Richard Mejia said.
“At this time, there is no threat to students and staff,” Mejia said.
The lockdown was lifted around 12:15 p.m. following a sweep of the campus by police, who found no threat.
Dozens of parents arrived early and waited outside the school for updates. After the lockdown was lifted, students spilled back onto the campus.
Sincere Williams, a junior at Millikan High School, said he was evacuated along with his peers to the school’s auditorium around 11 a.m. He said students were told that somebody had made a bomb threat toward the school.
Police did not specify what the threat was. The investigation is ongoing.
