After disappearing from a bar parking lot on March 2, the car of Long Beach native Terrilynn Monette had finally been discovered this past Saturday in the waters that edge along the Wisner Trail in Bayou St. John. A decomposed body, still unidentified, is believed to be Monette.

The 26-year-old, dedicated to teaching the impoverished, moved to New Orleans after learning of the Teach-NOLA program. After being recognized for astounding achievements in her work, she celebrated March 2 and completely vanished after last being seen outside Parlay’s Dream Lounge in the Lakeview area of New Orleans. Allegedly claiming intoxication, she informed acquaintances she was going to sleep in her car before driving home. Her car was last seen by a security camera leaving the parking lot at around 5AM.

“I don’t understand why it took them so long to find her car,” Monette’s mother, Toni Enclade, told The Times-Picayune. “This is supposedly one of the first places they would have checked. I’m just overwhelmed. It doesn’t make sense.”

Hundreds of people have stopped by the location where her Honda Accord was discovered to pay their respects with flowers, stuffed animals, and cards.
