A motorcyclist died Thursday afternoon following a crash near Cal State Long Beach, police said.

The crash happened at around 3:30 p.m. in the area of Bellflower Boulevard and Anaheim Road.

Police say the 60-year-old driver of a 2015 Honda Civic was driving northbound on Bellflower Boulevard from Seventh Street when she swerved into the southbound lanes and collided with the motorcyclist.

Authorities rendered aid to the motorcyclist, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. He was identified by police only as a 49-year-old Long Beach resident, as the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office works to notify his relatives.

The driver of the Honda Civic, who was identified as a Cypress resident, suffered minor injuries in the crash and was transported to a local hospital for treatment, police said.

Speed, distracted driving and driving under the influence do not appear to be factors in the crash, police said.

Bellflower Boulevard from Pacific Coast Highway to Anaheim Road was closed to traffic for several hours while detectives investigated the crash.
