A woman was hospitalized Thursday after a man bumped her on a Metro platform in Long Beach, causing an oncoming train to hit her, according to authorities.
It’s unclear whether the two knew each other.
Police say the woman was standing on the Willow Station Metro platform, located in the 2700 block of West American Avenue, sometime around 1:30 p.m. when the man “purposefully” bumped the woman, throwing her into the path of the train as it was pulling into the station.
While police initially said the woman was bumped off the platform, they later clarified that she remained on the platform but still was struck by the train.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel treated the woman at the scene and then transported her to a local hospital where she is in stable condition, police said, adding that she is expected to survive.
Authorities did not say whether an arrest was made, and no further suspect information was immediately available.
A motive for the assault is still currently under investigation, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
