A young man was killed Monday evening in North Long Beach when his motorcycle collided with a truck, police said.

At about 6:50 p.m., Long Beach police say they responded to a call about an injury traffic collision involving a motorcycle and truck at Long Beach Boulevard and Del Amo Boulevard. When officers arrived, they found the injured motorcyclist, a 22-year-old Compton resident, and had him transported to a local hospital in critical condition. He later died, police said.

Police say the crash occurred when a 29-year-old man from Long Beach, traveling eastbound on Del Amo Boulevard in a 1997 Chevy S10 truck, made a left turn into a parking lot and struck the motorcyclist who was traveling westbound down Del Amo Boulevard.

Authorities said the driver remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation, noting that they do not believe impaired or distracted driving contributed to the collision.

Authorities haven’t yet publicly identified the motorcyclist.
