A Long Beach man severely wounded after crashing his motorcycle into an SUV in North Long Beach died from his injuries, police said Monday.

The motorcyclist, 24, was riding a stolen 2020 Yamaha on June 7 when he attempted to split lanes while heading north on Long Beach Boulevard near 67th Way, Long Beach police said in a statement.

At the same time a woman, 68, driving a Lincoln SUV was attempting to make a left turn when the motorcyclist struck her, police said.

Witnesses told officers that the motorcyclist was speeding. Police said neither distracted nor impaired driving were believed to be factors.

The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. Police said they were notified Monday that he had died.

The man is not being identified pending notification of next of kin.

The woman stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said.
