NBCLA announced last week that it has hired a South Bay-centric multimedia reporter, who, starting next month, will increase coverage of a territory that stretches from Inglewood to Long Beach on NBC4’s evening newscasts.
According to FishbowlLA, Emmy-nominated Hetty Chang will be returning to the station to fill the position after first working for Los Angeles’ NBC affiliate in 2011 under the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA) Digital Media Fellowship.
“We are thrilled to welcome back Hetty to NBC4,” NBC4 Southern California vice president Todd Mokhtari said in a statement. “She will be a tremendous asset to our newscasts and will significantly increase the amount of news coverage out of the South Bay.”
Chang is a first-generation Chinese-American and a graduate of both Whitney High School in Cerritos and UCLA. She has worked mostly with the KSNV-TV, an NBC affiliate in Las Vegas, covering everything from the city’s forclosure crises to state political races.
Her new domain includes Long Beach, Torrance, Inglewood, Palos Verdes, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach and Redondo Beach. Her stories will be aired on NBC4’s 5PM and 6PM newscasts.
