The Long Beach Health Department is offering free flu shots for adults and children this year, available during walk-in hours at the Department’s main offices at 2525 Grand Ave.
This year’s flu has already hit epidemic levels in many parts of the country and last week, KPCC reported that the California Department of Public Health has experienced “higher-than-usual outpatient hospitalizations and outpatient visits by California residents struck by influenza this month,” with nine resulting in the death of someone under tha age of 65.
Health Department vaccines will be available to anyone ages 10 or older on a walk-in basis while supplies last during the following days and times this week:
- Wednesday, January 30 | 1PM to 4PM
- Thursday, January 31 | 9AM to noon and 3PM to 6PM (child vaccines available from 3PM to 6PM)
- Friday, February 1 | 9AM to noon and 1PM to 4PM
The vaccine is also available on a limited supply to children from age six months through nine years by appointment with the Health Department by calling (562) 570-4315.
“The flu shot this year has been determined to be an excellent match to prevent this year’s strain of flu,” said a statement from the Health Department. “It is more important than ever that all individuals receive a flu shot this year.”
